Refugees who have very few resources often rent apartments or homes.  Occasionally, an unscrupulous landlord has tried to take advantage of their tenants, exploiting refugees’ limited English, cultural differences or fears about being deported.

California Rural Legal Assistance (who serves cities too!) has been very helpful to some of FIRM’s clients in resolving matters involving tenants’ rights, sub-standard housing, lockouts and utility shut-offs by landlords, rent deposit refunds and evictions.

Tenants Together is a California state-wide nonprofit organization dedicated to defending and advancing the rights of California tenants to safe, decent and affordable housing.
