FIRM hosted our Annual Christmas Party on Saturday, December 15 for the families of Summerset and the many clients that we serve. Over four hundred and fifty gifts were distributed, truly a miraculous feat, given that on the morning of Thursday December 14, we had received less than one hundred toys. Thanks to the steady trickle of toys from our steadfast community of supporters throughout the day on Thursday and Friday, a trunkload of gifts from our local City Councilmember Clint Olivier, and last minute word from Toys for Tots that they could give us half of our request in time for the party, we were able to give every child who came a toy for Christmas. Praise God!
Although clouds were forecast, we had a warmer than expected day, and there was not a drop of rain to be seen! Our Slavic grandparents serenaded us with carols, young Slavik-American violinists led the audience in singing more songs, and the multi-generational, multi-ethnic Champa dancers performed two Lao songs together. Mary and Joseph took their donkey to Bethlehem, followed by angels, shepherds and wise men in our annual narration of the Nativity story. Volunteers from McLane High School, United Japanese Christian Church, University Presbyterian Church and the Hmong Alliance youth group led crafts, and helped lower gifts to the children waiting below. Santa Claus made his annual appearance, bringing joy and cheer to every child who tugged slightly at his real beard.
We are so blessed and thankful for every single supporter of FIRM. We would not be able to share the story and spirit of “Light to the World” without you! Thank you for every gift that was brought to FIRM, every tray of cookies/cupcakes and every donation that was made! Merry Christmas!!
