Can you speak English? Great! Is English your only language? Even better! FIRM needs 45 English as a Second Language (ESL) tutors to help with our work with Syrian refugee families. The only requirement is being able to speak English and a willing heart.
Tutors will be asked to commit to two hours per week, working from a provided curriculum. Tutors will be sent in teams of two to work with a specific family in their home, and the team will be mixed gender to be respectful of Syrian cultural differences.
Tutors will start with a mandatory orientation to learn about how Syrians came to be refugees, other historical and cultural contexts that will impact interactions, and learn about the ESL curriculum.
Orientations are now scheduled for about twice per month. If you would like to explore volunteering as an ESL tutor, let us know through this form, and you will be contacted about the next orientation session.
