FIRM has established a new partnership with the Laotian American Community of Fresno (LACF) which is a non-profit that seeks “to preserve and promote Lao cultural heritage.” LACF was founded in 2000 and is passionate about the socioeconomic success and educational success of the Laotian American community, as well as the mentoring of young Laotians. This partnership has become a reality as FIRM has continually heard about the lack of resources and services for a Laotian community in great need. LACF will move their office into the FIRM building and the Laotian community will now have a place to call their own. FIRM is committed to serving this community and look forward to working closely with Dr. Khampha Thepavong who will join the FIRM Board of Directors next month and is the Director of LACF. We have already begun discussions around hosting a statewide Laotian leadership conference, launching a mentoring program for Laotian youth and creating a drop-in center for Laotian Americans in need of services. FIRM also provides services to the Laotian community and currently employs five Lao-speaking staff who will provide services in partnership with LACF.
