We need volunteers!
Within Fresno’s ethnically and culturally rich county, voters of color and low-income voters have the lowest voter registration and turn-out rates. For this coming November 2012 elections, FIRM along with our local PICO affiliate Faith In Community are taking on the challenge of getting thousands of new and infrequent Fresno voters to the polls. We will be phone banking in Fresno along with PICO affiliates in several counties throughout the central Valley to target new and infrequent voters.
To develop enthusiasm and urgency for new and infrequent voters this year, FIRM and our PICO affiliates throughout California are calling our community members to turn out vote in support of Proposition 30, which is a critical state tax revenue initiative to balance California’s current budget deficit in order to prevent deeper cuts into the crucial public services and programs. Over past 4 years, California has already cut more than $56 Billion from education, police and fire protection, healthcare, and other critical state and local services; which has led to forced teacher layoffs, increased school class sizes, increased college fees, and reduced police protection.
We will be phone banking in three phases, each within the last two weeks of each month through the months of August, September, and October. Our first phase of this work begins on August 20th, with two weeks of phone banking. We have been working to gather volunteers from faith institutions, student organizations, and the community throughout Fresno but we still need more volunteers! We need YOU!!. You can sign-up with FIRM to volunteer for a 3-hour session in which you will be trained on our phone banking system, presented with a short paragraph message for our voters, and make calls to inform voters on Prop 30 and remind them to turn out to vote.
