On February 27, FIRM was pleased to participate with Faith in Community/PICO in a Citywide action to address the high rate of foreclosures in Fresno. More than 200 people from a variety of churches in Fresno gathered at St. Anthony Claret Church to meet with City Councilman Sal Quintero and express the need for a city ordainance that requires banks to act with greater transparency—proving to homeowners that they own the loan and offering loan modification options before they move toward foreclosure. Councilman Quintero gave his support of the ordinance, and at the City Council meeting on March 3, the Council moved forward with further work on the issue. FIRM was well represented throughout, with Rev. Sophia DeWitt offering the faith reflection at the action and Rev. Sharon Stanley addressing and inspiring the community at both the action at the later presentation to the City Council.
