FIRM hosted the “Called To Action” fundraiser and building dedication event. In 2016, FIRM was able to purchase a new building that was directly adjacent to the then current property. At the event, this building was officially named/dedicated as the “Rev. Dr. Sharon Stanley-Rea Center”! Through the generous donations of the community and the insurance settlement due to the recent flooding, the Rev. Dr. Sharon Stanley-Rea Center was remodeled just in time for the event. The remodel included new flooring, new paint, new LED lighting, new branded signage, upgraded fixtures in the bathrooms and more! FIRM’s founding Executive Director, the Rev. Dr. Sharon Stanley-Rea was in attendance for this historic occasion and shared an inspirational message for those in attendance about loving and serving refugees.
The evening featured live jazz music by Fresno State music professor and local jazz musician, Craig VonBerg as well as a wonderful selection of food from around the world! Tastes of Southeast Asia, Syria, Ukraine and Africa were available and for many attendees, they were trying many of these foods for the very first time. Guests bid generously on silent auction items that included a beautiful water color by acclaimed local artist Rollin Pickford. We were also able to honor two amazing community servants with the Rev. Dr. Sharon Stanley-Rea Award. This award goes to individuals that show a passion for serving the refugee community in Fresno. This year’s awardees were Jim Call (pictured) and Jackie Holmes! FIRM hopes to continue to host the annual fundraiser event on the campus in the future as well. We would like to thank everyone who supported the event and everyone who was able to join us!
