FIRM is pleased once again to host Lead Safe Work Practices (LSWP) training in the Fresno area as part of our grant partnership with the City of Fresno in their Lead Hazard Control Grant. This 8 hour, free class is for foremen, construction supervisors and other workers and provides information on how to work safely around lead based paint, when doing renovations in homes built before 1978. This certification is now required by EPA for everyone working in pre-1978 homes.
Lead based paint in homes is a significant health risk for children under 6 in our older Fresno neighborhoods, and exposure to lead can lead to reduced IQ and other permanent health problems.
The class will be taught by Linda Kite of the L.A. Healthy Homes Collaborative, state certified Lead Inspector/Risk Assessor. It will be offered on Monday and Tuesday, February 24 and 25. Participants will get to choose the day that works best for them. Individuals from church and community engaged in construction, either professionally, or as “weekend warriors”, are encouraged to attend! A flyer for the training for use in church or community can be found here. To register or with questions, call the FIRM office at 559-487-1500 and ask to speak to John Bosavanh or Rev. Sophia DeWitt.
