The Neng Thao Memorial Scholarship seeks to honor the legacy and memory of Neng Thao, who was planning to seek higher education, and to promote higher education opportunities for Southeast Asian youth. The scholarship is awarded annually in the spring to Southeast Asian graduating seniors who are planning on attending college in the fall. Only 14% of Laotian, and 17% of Hmong and Cambodian adults have a bachelors degree or higher, compared with 54% of Asian Americans overall. Very few scholarships are available specifically for Southeast Asian students.
Applications for the 2019 scholarship will be available starting April 1, and will be due by May 3, 2019. The review committee for the scholarship includes community leaders and members of Neng Thao’s family. Scholarship winner will be announced on May 15, and an award ceremony will be held near the end of May.
All contributions to the Scholarship Fund are used for the scholarship. So far, over $4000 has been raised. The 2019 goal for the scholarship fund is $10,000. To support this year’s scholarship, please make your donation before May 1.
