Senate Bill 375 signed into effect in September 2008, if successfuly implemented, can improve the lives of many. With careful transportation and regional planning on land use, the hope is for Fresno County to have cleaner air, higher housing density which results in shorter commutes, equal housing and job allocations that will fit all income levels, and to enhance the health of all residents.
One of the main goals of SB 375 is to reduce the greenhouse gases, a target of 15% by the year 2035. Regional Transportation Plans (RTP) is executed with the Sustainable Communities Strategies (SCS) which focuses at 25 years into the future. With the SCS performance there will be better communities, housing, and land conservation. Therefore, creating healthier communities.
Fresno Council of Governments has granted FIRM to work with the communities that we serve. Through outreach we have been able to inform the community on the importance of regional transportation planning, land use, and how it affects us all. We have collaborated with local agencies and been able to successfully hold workshops to better educate our constituents and will continue to do so.
